A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Kyushu, Japan, on July 28, triggering the highest level on the Shindo seismic intensity scale. More than 10 aftershocks have been recorded, and about 300,000 residents were ordered to evacuate. At least 50 people were injured, while damage to roads, rail services, and airports has disrupted transportation. Additional aftershocks could cause further structural damage, power outages, and localized disruptions to communications and essential services.

La Tomatina will take place in Buñol, Spain, on August 26 at 12:00 PM; large crowds and travel disruptions are expected.

On July 25, around 11:00 PM, a suspected Islamic State (IS) inspired vehicle-ramming attack occurred during Berlin Pride celebrations in Tiergarten. One death and 29 injuries were reported before the suspect was fatally shot by police in the Spandau District, prompting the event’s cancellation and evacuation. German authorities will likely maintain a heightened police presence around major public gathering sites, transport hubs, nightlife areas, and upcoming events as the investigation continues.

Wildfires that began July 22 near Saumos have burned over 80,000 acres in Gironde, forcing 167,000 evacuations there, and an additional 31,000 in Landes. The fires have spread and are now roughly 30 kilometers from Bordeaux, despite military deployment and aerial retardant drops. Separately, Spain declared a national emergency July 23 for Madrid and Ávila, where merged fires have burned nearly 50,000 acres and displaced 60,000 people and caused one death.

The Stockholm Pride Parade begins at 1:00 PM on August 1 in Stockholm, Sweden; expect transportation delays and increased security.

The Stockholm Pride Parade, Scandinavia’s largest Pride parade will draw approximately 50,000 participants. The parade will begin at 1:00 PM at Norr Mälarstrand and end at Slussplan. Approximately 20,000 police officers will deploy for security operations. Officers will be placed around staging areas, protest venues, and transport hubs, and closing roads around the Complex. Local authorities will enforce a lockdown policy from July 23 to July 27, restricting access to the Complex for official visitors only. Localized travel disruptions and clashes with police are likely.

From July 31 to August 4, over one million people will attend Hachinohe Sansha Taisai in Hachinohe, Japan.

From July 31 to August 4, over one million people will attend Hachinohe Sansha Taisai in Hachinohe, Japan. Also called the Three Shrines Festival, Hachinohe Sansha Taisai is a Shinto celebration and UNESCO-recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage. The festival includes parades, musical and dance performances, float exhibitions, and a Kagami-ryu Kiba Dakyu tournament. Heightened security and extensive crowd control measures are implemented during the festival.
