Wind-driven wildfires burning since July 29 have killed three firefighters and displaced thousands in Greece. A blaze in Rethymno, Crete has burned roughly 11,000 acres and forced 8,000 evacuations. On July 31, fires reached western Attica, as well as Aspropyrgos and Mount Poikilo inside Athens’ urban limits. Fires also remain active on Paros, Achaia and Argolida, with a Category 5 (extreme) fire risk forecast for Attica, Evia, Crete and the Cyclades on August 1.

The Trakya Müzik Festival will take place at Mustafa Altunhan Tesisleri on Yayla Beach in Keşan, Turkey, from July 30 to August 2. The event is expected to attract between 40,000 and 80,000 attendees across the four-day event. Entrance to the event will begin between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM, and the event will end at midnight, with afterparties continuing at the beach until 2:00 AM daily. With large crowds and prominent artists like Sagopa Kajmer in attendance, heightened security around the event is expected.

Spain’s Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AMET) has forecasted temperatures of 104℉ (40℃) across the Northeast and Ebro Valley region. Spain’s Eastern and Central provinces remain under high alert. The new heatwave will impact ongoing operations to quell wildfire outbreaks. Travel operations will likely be disrupted due to high temperatures.
