Incident Details

On July 30, Mexican authorities announced the arrest of Ramón Ángel Álvarez Ayala, leader of a Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) cell. CJNG is one of the most powerful cartels in Mexico and often retaliates when its leaders are arrested. This includes attacks in popular tourist cities such as Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara. Heightened security is expected across Jalisco and neighboring states, including troop deployments and roadblocks.
