Doctors in Mexico will strike nationwide on November 15. The strike was organized by healthcare unions and professional associations across Mexico to criticize the Morena party and President Claudia Sheinbaum for alleged neglect of Mexico’s healthcare system. This strike will involve walkouts, demonstrations, marches, and press conferences across major cities in Mexico, most notably a march from the Angel of Independence Monument in Mexico City starting at 10:00 AM. Emergency services will remain operational.

Excessive snowfall traps thousands in Nepal on October 29 and still ongoing; exercise caution.

At least 1,500 people, including 200 foreign tourists, have been trapped in Tilicho, Khangsar, Pisang, Upper Manang, and Humde due to continuous snowfall, prompting the Nepalese Army to conduct a rescue operation. The Meteorological Forecasting Division has issued a special warning for sudden rises in river levels across Koshi, Bagmati, and Madhesh provinces. Heightened landslide risks, particularly in Koshi province are expected.

Expect heightened security in Trinidad and Tobago over the coming months after the government extended state of emergency.

The state of emergency was extended a second time for three months on October 31. The measure is aimed at combating criminal networks operating from within prisons who are attempting to target police and government officials. Under the SoE, the authorities can conduct searches and arrests without a warrant. No curfews or movement restrictions have been announced thus far. The extension of the SoE comes amid heightened regional tensions related to US airstrikes off the coast of Venezuela.

Tropical Storm Melissa has intensified into a category 5 hurricane with sustained winds of up to 140 mph and is forecasted to pass over Kingston, Jamaica, before tracking towards southern Cuba on October 28 and the Bahamas on October 29. Airports in Jamaica are suspending operations, seaports are closed, and authorities warn of up to 30–40 inches of rainfall, storm surge, flash floods, and landslides across mountainous terrains.

Cases of Oropouche virus increased and spread across seven regions in Panama as of October 24; exercise caution when outdoors.

Health officials have reported a recent uptick in Oropouche virus infection rates due to deforestation and increasingly warm climates. The virus is primarily transmitted to humans from midge and mosquito bites, and there is currently no vaccine. Common symptoms include high fevers, headaches, muscle and joint pain, and potential skin rashes. The virus is currently active in Panamá Metro, Los Santos, Herrera, Panamá Norte, Veraguas, Panamá Oeste, Coclé, Darién, and Panamá Este.

Health authorities warn of a measles outbreak in multiple regions of New Zealand as of October 24; exercise caution while travelling.

Eight cases of measles have been reported in Auckland, Nelson, Northland, Manawatū, Wellington and Taranaki that have been traced back to a Bluebridge ferry from October 3. Measles is an highly contagious disease that spreads through airborne particles. Symptoms may begin 7-14 days after infection with a fever, runny nose, Koplik spots, and a rash. Health New Zealand warns that additional cases are likely.

Strong winds, flooding, and fires have disrupted power, blocked highways, and damaged buildings. Recovery and repair efforts are ongoing, and residual travel and utility disruptions are expected through the end of the month.

Avoid non-essential travel and reconfirm flights as Storm Benjamin moves across Western Europe; expect residual effects.

A 30-day state of emergency will heighten security measures in Lima, Peru starting October 22.

This declaration made by Peru’s new president Jerí in an attempt to limit violence within the city after a wave of violent protests. Soldiers have already started patrolling the streets. Some civil liberties will be suspended including the freedom of assembly.
