Transportation Strikes in Santiago de Compostela, Spain on July 24 and 25

On 24 and 25 July, a strike is planned by the company Transportes Urbanos de Santiago S.A. (TUSSA). The strike is to demand negotiations to continue for equality of the working conditions for all employees. Major delays in travel are to be expected as this is a public transportation company and will cause a shortage in transportation options.

Heatwave Across Spain from July 10-11

Temperatures are expected to reach 105°F (44°C) across southern Spain from 10-11 July 2021. This will increase the likelihood of heat-related illness in locations that lack adequate ventilation and air conditioning.

Increased Weather Warnings Across Europe Through July 2

Heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms is expected across countries in Europe until 2 July. Countries have increased warning levels due to the impact these storms will have. The effects of the storms are likely to cause travel disruptions for days after the storms clear.

On 6 May, nationwide protests will take place as planned by student groups. The main protest will take place in the Ministry of Universities in Madrid at 19:00 local time. The protests are to demand free public education and increased funding. Expect traffic disruptions around areas of protests.

Labor Union Demonstrations Throughout Spain on April 15

On 15 April, demonstrations are occurring in front of the Ministry of Science and Innovation at 18:00 local time. Similar protests are occurring in Barcelona, Valencia, and Seville. These events are being organized by various trade unions in hopes of a legislation revision to recognize labor rights as well as allow negotiations for salary and working conditions for all personnel in the research sector.

Political Rallies Lead to Clashes in Preparation for May 4 Elections in Madrid, Spain

On 7 April, at least 14 people were injured when protesters clashed with police at the site of a political rally for the far-right political party Vox. Reports suggest that left-wing counter-protesters threw projectiles at security personnel, who used batons to control the crowd. At least 2 arrests have been made. More political rallies are likely to be staged in preparation for the 4 May regional elections. Further clashes may be possible.
