Air traffic control workers across France will go on strike from September 18 to 19, resulting in travel disruptions.

The Syndicat Majoritaire des Contoleurs Aeriens (SNCTA), France’s largest air traffic control union representing about 60% of all French air traffic control workers, will engage in a 24-hour strike from the morning of September 18 to the end of September 19. SNCTA is calling for increased wages as well as management reform. A similar strike by smaller unions on July 3 and 4 caused over one million passengers to be affected and thousands of flights to be canceled.

Mass protests will pop up in major Brazilian cities on September 7 causing disruptions and safety concerns.

Mass protests are expected in Brazil’s major cities on September 7. Protesters will voice their support for former president Jair Bolsonaro amid his trial for alleged involvement in a 2022 coup. The protests, coinciding with Brazil’s Independence Day, have a potential of turning violent and attracting counter protests.

Aviation ground workers will strike intermittently starting September 3 through January 2 across Portugal; flight delays and cancellations expected.

Ground workers associated with the Metal and Allied Industries Union (SIMA) will strike intermittently across Portugal September 3 through January 2. This protest follows extended protests by ground workers in July and August. The first strike will begin on September 3 at 12:00 AM and end on September 9 at 11:59 PM. Further strikes will take place each Friday-Monday during the following weeks until, a final, extended strike from December 19 through January 2.

On September 3, a commemorative military parade will take place in Beijing, China. Parade-related security checkpoints have already been established.

On September 3, a military parade commemorating the end of World War II will proceed along Changan Avenue and pass through Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China. Areas surrounding the parade location have been closed for rehearsals and security checks. Security checks have also increased at railway stations and airports within China.

Expect further attacks against government facilities in Cali, Colombia, over the coming weeks.

Terrorist organizations are expected to continue targeting government facilities including police stations and military buildings in Cali. The latest bombing attack on August 21 killed six while injuring 60 outside of the Marco Fidel Suarez Air Base. Several police stations also experienced bombings on June 10. Expect Increased security measures to follow.

Typhoon Podul will make landfall in southeastern Taiwan on August 13; flooding, landslides, and essential service disruptions are possible.

Typhoon Podul (Yangliu) is forecast to make landfall near Hualien and Taitung early on August 13, and will later move northwest towards China. Kaohsiung city, Hualien, Pingtung, and Taitung counties will all be affected. Winds of up to 96 mph and at least 24 inches of rainfall are expected. Flash floods and landslides are possible. Typhoon Podul’s trajectory and intensity may change with short notice.

Severe heat strikes southern Europe, causing wildfires and heat advisories this week.

Severe heat across southern Europe triggered wildfires, evacuations, and widespread heat advisories. Southern France recorded 109.4°F, and last week a blaze burned 16,000 hectares amid a red alert in the country’s wine region. Bulgaria reported 200 fires, with hundreds of firefighters deployed. Hungary set a national record high of 104°F on August 10.

Baggage handling workers associated with Ryanair Group Airlines will strike across Spain August 15-17; further strikes possible.

Azul Handling ground workers, who provide ground handling services for Ryanair Group airlines, will strike August 15-17 from 5:00 AM-9:00 AM, 12:00 PM-3:00 PM, and 9:00 PM-11:59 PM. Should Azul Handling not come to a resolution with striking workers by the 17th, the work stoppages will continue every following Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday until December 31 during the same timeframes. Flight delays are expected, and cancellations are possible.
