Transportation workers will strike indefinitely, causing major travel disruptions in Oruro, Bolivia beginning on April 1.

The Christian National Trade Union Federation (CNV), the Federation of Dutch Trade Unions (FNV),  and other unions have called for a 24-hour strike across the Netherlands on April 14. This strike is a follow up to a previous protest against a wage freeze for government workers. The CNV and FNV unions represent many public transport workers, and are often involved in strikes that significantly disrupt rail and buses. Expect heavy delays for public transportation across the Netherlands.

Expect travel delays from March 29 to April 5 in Braga, Portugal due to Holy Week processions.

Holy Week in Óbidos will cause travel delays and road closures with multiple events and processions starting March 29 through to April 5. Holy Week is one of the largest historical events in Óbidos and attracts a large number of tourists every year. Many locals will be out of office throughout the week. Expect a variation in regular business hours, public transportation, road closures and traffic.

Aviation workers in Azores, Portugal will participate in a partial strike starting on March 24; anticipate air travel disruptions.

Aviation workers have announced an indefinite, partial strike beginning on March 24. Workers organized the strike to protest privatization initiatives and other ambitions that could threaten their job security and damage current working conditions. The employees will continue to work regular hours, but will begin refusing overtime or agreeing to shifts on unscheduled days. There is no scheduled end to the strike, but consequential staffing gaps will likely disrupt normal operations of flights departing from and arriving to Azores. 

Trinidad and Tobago declared a state of emergency on March 3 after a rise in violent crime.

Measles cases are expected to peak between March and April, with high rates lasting through July. A total of 84 cases have been reported in 2026, an increase from the 6 cases reported in 2025 and the 30 cases reported in 2024 at the same time of year. The virus is highly contagious, with common symptoms including fever, cough, and rash. Measles can be prevented through immunization.

The death of a cartel leader on February 22 is sparking nationwide security concerns in Mexico.  Mexican armed forces killed “El Mencho,” the leader of one of Mexico’s largest cartels. HIs death sparked a wave of roadblocks that are disrupting travel and creating security concerns across the country, with the majority of disruptions occurring in Jalisco. The U.S. embassy in Mexico has advised U.S. citizens to shelter in place across several states. Several locations also saw violence aimed largely to cause disruptions.

Travel disruptions ensue in Goppenstein, Switzerland until February 21 after severe avalanche warnings and a train derailment.

A 24-hour nationwide general strike is expected to disrupt Argentina on February 19 following a call by the Confederación General del Trabajo. The strike is  in response to President Javier Milei’s proposed labour reforms. Disruptions are expected to impact public transport services, local traffic and potentially air travel. Recent protest in relation, resulted in hundreds of injuries, heightened police presence is expected and force tactics may be used to disperse crowds if it poses as a disturbance to bystanders.
