The Italian government has announced it will deploy 500 soldiers to support police in Milan until the end of the year. The government has also passed laws to increase penalties for rioters and looters. Soldiers have mostly been stationed in the city center where protestors looted businesses in a previous protest. Protests in Milan on October 30 were largely peaceful and avoided confrontation, but clashes occurred with police in other cities.
