Wildfires beginning July 22 and July 23 have spread to areas near Bordeaux, France and Madrid, Spain; exercise extreme caution.

Incident Details

Wildfires that began July 22 near Saumos have burned over 80,000 acres in Gironde, forcing 167,000 evacuations there, and an additional 31,000 in Landes. The fires have spread and are now roughly 30 kilometers from Bordeaux, despite military deployment and aerial retardant drops. Separately, Spain declared a national emergency July 23 for Madrid and Ávila, where merged fires have burned nearly 50,000 acres and displaced 60,000 people and caused one death.
