  • Portugal: Protest Advisory | A nationwide general strike planned for June 3 in Portugal; expect major disruptions to travel and services. The General Confederation of the Portuguese Workers (CGTP) has planned a nationwide general strike on June 3 to protest a proposed labor reform package. The strike will include private and public-sector workers. Road, rail, metro, and airport services are expected to be substantially disrupted or suspended. Workers across the healthcare industry will also participate in the strike. Demonstrations are planned at Dom Pedro IV Square at 10:00 AM and in other urban centers across the country.   • London, United Kingdom: Travel Advisory | Underground tube drivers will strike on June 2 and June 4 in London. The strike is expected to cause major disruption to underground service. London Underground drivers will conduct two strikes on June 2 and June 4 which will be led by the RMT union. The strike is in response to the proposed introduction of a four-day working week, and follows related strikes in April. Service will not be available on the entire Circle and Piccadilly lines, the Metropolitan line between Aldgate and Baker Street, and the Central line between Liverpool Street and White City. All other lines are expected to experience disruptions.   • Geneva, Switzerland: Protest Advisory | Public service workers will strike in Geneva, Switzerland from June 2-4; expect disruptions and heightened security near gatherings. Public service workers will strike in Geneva in protest of proposed funding cuts. Protesters will gather on June 2 and 4 at 6:00 PM at the north point of Plaine de Plainpalais. Demonstrators will also gather at Promenade de la Treille on June 3 at 11:30 AM. Travelers should expect disruptions around demonstration areas and increased police presence.   • Mexico City, Mexico: Protest Advisory | Labor union demonstrators will march in Mexico City, Mexico, on June 1 at 9:00 AM; significant travel disruptions and heightened security expected. Labor union demonstrators associated with the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) will gather at the Angel of Independence before marching to Zocalo in Mexico City. The demonstration is part of an ongoing nationwide strike demanding salary increases, pension reforms, and improved working conditions. In Oaxaca, similar protests turned violent, with police authorized to forcibly disperse crowds in response to blocked vehicle access to Oaxaca International Airport. Significant travel disruptions and heightened security measures are expected as additional CNTE-affiliated groups arrive in the capital from across the country.   • Peru: Travel Advisory | Transportation workers in Peru will strike indefinitely starting June 2. Peruvian transportation workers are threatening to strike indefinitely starting June 2. This comes following rising diesel prices throughout the country and workers are demanding government compensation. Travel disruptions are expected throughout major Peruvian population centers. SafeAbroad travelers are advised to monitor Peruvian alert systems to stay updated on the strike. Travelers are advised to plan travel accordingly. Travelers are advised to avoid any public demonstrations or protests related to the event. 
  • Belmopan, Belize: Protest Advisory | A demonstration is planned in Belmopan, Belize, on June 1 at 5:00 PM; disruptions and heightened security are expected.The demonstration is planned to demand justice concerning a physician who was fatally shot on May 29, in the capital city, Belmopan. The demonstration will start at Emporium Plaza before marching down Ring Road. The protest march is expected to disrupt traffic and have heightened police presence. SafeAbroad travelers are advised to set aside additional time for travel in areas affected by the demonstrations. Travelers should anticipate heightened security and follow all official directives.

  • Okinawa, Japan: Weather Advisory | Typhoon Jangmi is expected to land in Okinawa, Japan, on June 1 at 9:00 AM; expect travel delays and cancellations. The Jangmi typhoon is currently located 1,138 kilometers (707 miles) south-southeast of Kadena with maximum winds of 83 kilometers (51 miles) per hour. Natural disasters such as floods, thunderstorms, and mudslides are likely to occur in Okinawa. SafeAbroad travelers are advised to monitor local media for up-to-date weather information. Travelers are advised to maintain situational awareness when setting out on road travel and to be prepared to adjust travel itineraries.
  • South Korea: Security Advisory | The United States embassy issued a security alert for South Korea from June 3 to June 4 due to upcoming presidential elections. South Korea’s government raised the national terror alert level to “Caution” as a preemptive measure to strengthen security near campaign sites. There will be heightened political activity, large public gatherings, and police presence during this period. Localized traffic congestion and demonstrations may be heavily concentrated near government buildings, public squares, and major transportation hubs.   • Hong Kong: Security Advisory | Heightened security is expected from June 3-5, surrounding the anniversary of the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown on June 4. The anniversary remains one of the most politically sensitive dates in Hong Kong and mainland China. Key locations include, Victoria Park, Causeway Bay commercial district, Central District, Wan Chai and West Kowloon Courts area. While no large-scale demonstrations or commemorative events have been authorized, historically authorities  have conducted heightened crowd-control and surveillance operations in key locations. Africa & Middle East
  • Meru, Kenya: Health Advisory | Doctors have threaten to strike over labor grievances in Meru and Isiolo, Kenya, from 2 June. Doctors affiliated with the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union have threatened strike action in Meru and Isiolo beginning 2 June over alleged labor violations, delayed salaries and staffing shortages. Disruption to non-emergency medical services is likely if the strike proceeds. Travelers are advised to confirm the availability of medical services before travel or appointments in affected areas. Seek emergency care where necessary and prepare for possible delays or reduced healthcare access.
  • Morocco: Travel Advisory | Heightened security and travel disruptions are expected in Morocco during the Eid al-Adha holiday period June 3-8. During this holiday period there is increased domestic and regional travel, often involving religious observance, tourism and travel for family reunification. There is an increased demand for rail, road and air travel between major urban centers and popular tourist destinations. Doctors will strike nationwide across Spain on May 18-22; expect disruptions to healthcare services.

Doctors will strike nationwide from May 18-22 in an ongoing call for improved working conditions. The Spanish Confederation of Medical Unions (CESM) organized the strikes which have been ongoing since February 2026. No strike-related protest have been announced but are likely. The strike is expected to cause disruptions and closures to healthcare facilities, routine appointments, elective surgeries and specialist appointments. The emergency rooms will remain open during the strike, anticipate longer wait times.

Localized disruptions are expected in Tokyo and other major urban centers in Japan on May 19 and May 29 with protesters gathering in response to proposed revisions to Japan’s pacifist constitution, concerns over lethal arms exports and the ongoing Middle East conflict. Protesters are expected to gather at key locations including the National Diet, the Ministry of Defence, the Prime Minister’s Office and main train stations.
