Trinidad and Tobago declared a state of emergency beginning on March 3 after rising violence against law enforcement and government officials. Officials declared that the rise in violent crime would endanger public safety if left unchecked. The state of emergency allows warrantless searches and arrests of suspects. The government has not announced any associated curfews or movement restrictions. The state of emergency will last 15 days, but could be extended.
