On October 12, two unrelated demonstrations in Athens, Greece, will cause increased security, disruptions to transport, and possible violence.
On October 12 at 2:30 PM, social activists will gather at Victoria Square before marching through nearby streets to denounce the torture and killing of a Pakistani immigrant in police custody in September. At 7:30 PM, anti-war activists will gather at Propylaea Square to denounce Greece’s NATO involvement. Both will be well attended. Increased police presence and disruptions on roads and walkways are likely. Minor clashes between police and demonstrators are possible.
