On October 30, the UK Health Security Agency confirmed the UK’s first case of mpox clade 1b, detected in London. Clade 1b spreads more easily and has a higher fatality rate than other strains. The virus spreads through close contact with infected individuals, animals, contaminated items, or respiratory droplets. Symptoms include rash, swollen lymph nodes, blisters, fever, sore throat, headaches, muscle aches, and exhaustion.
