Until November 19, roughly 50,000 protesters are marching on Wellington, New Zealand in opposition to the Treaty Principles Bill and its effect on Māori Rights. The march began in Cape Reinga on November 10, and will end at the Parliament building in Wellington on November 19.
In 2024, Australia has had over 40,000 cases of Pertussis so far, making it the largest outbreak on record. Pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough, is highly contagious and can be dangerous to people with respiratory issues. The regions of Queensland and South Wales are disproportionately affected, and the outbreak is likely due to a drop in vaccination rates.
On November 11 at 2:00 PM, approximately 100,000 people will march from the Rondo Romana Dmowskiego to the National Stadium to commemorate Polish Independence Day. Counter-protesters will march from the Plac Konstytucji to the Plac Trzech Krzyży. Significant traffic disruptions and a heightened security presence are expected.
From November 10 to November 16, security will be heightened across Lima, Peru, for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. Over 13,000 law enforcement officers will secure Lima International Airport, the Lima Convention Center, the Ministry of Culture, the Gran Teatro Nacional, as well as 19 hotels. Checkpoints, snipers, and bomb squads will be established. Roads may be closed around the city.
On November 14, the National Union of Pilots will strike across France. The strike will oppose government plans to increase taxes on airline tickets. The strike has encouraged other aviation personnel to join the strike. Flight disruptions are likely across France and disruptions may linger to November 15. Demonstrations may occur, and heightened security is expected.
Until November 6 at the earliest, southern Thailand will experience severe weather. Forecast by the Thai Meteorological Department, the weather will include strong rains and heavy rainfall. Landslides and flash flooding are both expected to occur during and after.
On November 4, red warnings were issued for Catalonia due to heavy rainfall and flooding. Currently 15 flights have been cancelled and roads leading to the airport are blocked, causing severe disruptions to El Prat Airport in Barcelona. Several highways have been closed and all commuter trains in northeast Catalonia have been suspended. This follows storms in Valencia which has killed at least 217 people.
On November 4, Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano erupted, spewing volcanic materials up to 2000 meters (6,561 feet) into the air. Hot ash hit a nearby village, collapsing houses and causing at least 10 deaths. At least 10,000 people have been affected in the Wulanggitang District. Due to increased activity, authorities raised the alert level to IV, the highest level in the Volcanological Survey of Indonesia’s (PVMBG) four-tiered system. Additional eruptions are possible.
On November 12, Metro unions will strike to demand higher pay, more flexible work schedules, and other employment amenities. This follows strikes that will occur from November 1-8. Significant travel disruptions are expected causing further disruptions to businesses. Associated demonstrations are likely to take place.
On October 30, the UK Health Security Agency confirmed the UK’s first case of mpox clade 1b, detected in London. Clade 1b spreads more easily and has a higher fatality rate than other strains. The virus spreads through close contact with infected individuals, animals, contaminated items, or respiratory droplets. Symptoms include rash, swollen lymph nodes, blisters, fever, sore throat, headaches, muscle aches, and exhaustion.
