On August 3, a stabbing and car-ramming attack caused one death and 13 injuries outside the Bundang AK Plaza department store in Seongnam, South Korea. A 33-year-old man was arrested in connection to the incident shortly after it occurred. The incident is being treated as terror-related with heightened security expected in the area in the coming hours.

On July 27, American tourists are advised to keep a low profile after an American tourist was nearly killed the prior week in an unprovoked attack. The U.S. Embassy in Dublin, Ireland, recommends walking in groups, securing wallets and passports in interior pockets, and only carrying a little amount of cash on your person. The embassy also recommends not staring at your phone while walking in public areas, and to limit the amount of alcohol you consume.

Severe weather and significant travel disruptions are expected as Typhoon Doksuri makes landfall in southern China on July 27

On July 26, Typhoon Doksuri hit Taiwan, causing the evacuation of at least 300 people and flood warnings across the country. On July 27, Dokuri is expected to hit southern China, causing flight train and ferry cancellations. Flash flooding and road closures are expected throughout the country, likely impacting the ability of first responders to act quickly.

Wildfires in Rhodes, Greece forced tens of thousands of evacuations on July 23 as Heat Wave Charon continues.

On June 22, a wildfire caused mass evacuations in the central and southern regions of Rhodes, Greece. At least 19,000 tourists and residents were evacuated from villages and hotels across the region. Heavy smoke and limited visibility have resulted in cancelled inbound and outbound flights. Further evacuations are likely if the fire continues to spread.

Police believe the attack was motivated by a mental health episode, and is likely a standalone incident. The area remains taped off as the scene is assessed and cleaned up.

Travelers in Auckland, New Zealand should anticipate residual disruptions following a shooting on July 20

At 7:20 AM on July 20, an unidentified man entered a building under construction in Auckland, New Zealand and began shooting at workers and staff. The gunman killed two people and injured several more, before ultimately being killed by police. The gunman is believed to be a lone actor and officials believe any security threat has passed. 

Heatwaves across Southern Europe expected to increase the risk of heat stroke and wildfires through July.

Temperatures across Southern Europe are expected to climb the week of July 17, increasing risk of heatstroke and wildfires. Countries such as Spain, Italy, and Greece are expected to see the sharpest increase, experiencing temperatures in excess of 110 degrees. Wildfires have been reported across the region, forcing evacuations and road closures.
