Japan’s Sakurajima Volcano erupted on April 11 and will affect travel over the coming days.

Incident Details

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a level 3 warning out of a 5-level scale for the Sakurajima Volcano. The volcano released major plumes of ash and debris that will affect areas within a 1.2-mile radius of the Minamidake summit and Showa craters. Volcanic ash in the area delayed and canceled flights and local transportation in Kagoshima. Debris covering roadways will lead to unsafe driving conditions and delays over the coming days.
