Incident Details

Health officials have confirmed four chikungunya cases and identified 17 probable Playa Langosta among residents and visitors. Chikungunya is transmitted through the bites of infected Aedes mosquitoes. Authorities have fumigated approximately 5,000 homes, and expanded mosquito-control operations. Additional locally acquired cases remain possible as rainy season conditions favor mosquito activity.

Traveler Guidance

Safe abroad travelers are advised to prevent mosquito bites using DEET or picaridin repellent and protective clothing and seek medical care if symptoms develop.
