Chile will continue to experience extreme fire conditions in the coming weeks.

Incident Details

Since early February, several regions have experienced high temperatures, prolonged drought, and strong winds and heavy smoke. The most recent active zone is the Maule Region where fires are consuming over 76 hectares and directly threatening inhabited areas. Central and Southern Chile are under a Red Alert and mandatory evacuations have begun. Conditions are expected to persist in the coming weeks.

Traveler Safety

Travelers are advised to Monitor SAE alerts and stay clear of firefighting operations. Expect sudden closures on regional routes and plan alternative routes if necessary.
