Incident Details
Scandinavian Airlines announced cancellations of over 1,000 flights in April, impacting airports in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Cancellations are in response to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a consequence of the war between Iran and the U.S. and Israel. The Strait transports 20% of the world’s oil and natural gas. Its closure produced a surge in fuel prices, causing Scandinavian Airlines to reduce its flight itineraries. Anticipate further cancellations if the conflict endures into May and June.
Traveler Safety
Travelers are advised to reconfirm flight schedules and plan for travel with alternate airlines if necessary. Monitor local news and social media for updates.
