Incident Details
Legionnaires’ disease is a bacterial infection caused by an increase in Legionella bacteria present in waterways. Around five percent of people affected by the bacteria will experience serious symptoms, including fever and respiratory issues, with elderly individuals and those already with health issues at the most risk. The eight people identified with the illness is an unusual spike this early into the year. The source of the exposure is not yet clear, but authorities report possible exposure to those who visited London since December 9.
Traveler Safety
Travelers are advised to be cautious about where they get their water and to monitor local media for updates on information about the infection. Seek appropriate medical attention if symptoms arise.
