Incident Details

On October 1, the US Embassy released a nationwide demonstration alert. Ecuadorian civil society organizations continue to call for demonstrations throughout the country. These protests have caused significant disruptions to traffic and public transportation in the affected areas. Road closures have been predominantly north of Quito near Otavalo and Ibarra. Demonstrations and road blockages happen with little notice, and have, at times, turned violent.

Travelers are advised to avoid all demonstrations to minimize the risk of exposure to incidental violence.
