  • Greece: Protest Advisory | Expect disruptions in Athens, Greece, and other urban centers on November 17 due to the Polytechnic Uprising anniversary marches. Greeks will march to commemorate the 52nd anniversary of the 1973 Athens Polytechnic uprising against the country’s former military dictatorship. At the largest demonstration, participants will gather at Klafthmonos Square in Athens before marching to the U.S. embassy. The events will be well attended, with the possibility of turning unruly.   • Spain: Travel Advisory | Unionized transport workers will participate in nationwide strikes and coinciding protests on November 17, 21, 24, and 28. Workers are demanding increased wages and improved working conditions. The strikes will disrupt rail services across the country including the capital, Madrid. Various associated protests have also been organized; a major demonstration will take place on November 17 outside Cordoba’s railway station (Andalusia autonomous community) at 11:00 AM. Expect transportation disruptions and traffic delays on the affected days, as well as heightened security near related demonstrations.   • Greece: Travel Advisory | Railway workers will strike for 24 hours nationwide on November 18. The strike was organized to demand better conditions, including increased wages and improved working conditions. Services provided by the private railway company, Hellenic Train, are expected to be heavily affected by cancellations and delays. Travelers are advised to confirm the status of their route online before departure. They should also build in extra time for travel to account for the delays and disruptions.

  • Mexico City, Mexico: Security Advisory | Expect further Gen Z protests in Mexico City over the coming days and week. On November 15, thousands of protesters demonstrated with some dismantling protective barriers around the National Palace. The police used tear gas and fire extinguishers, leading to a violent clash between officers and protesters. Authorities reported that over 100 police officers and 20 civilians were injured and approximately 20 protesters were arrested. These protests demanded action against cartel violence, with the murder of Michiocan state’s mayor further enflaming the issue. More Gen-Z protests are expected as well as a heightened police presence in the city. SafeAbroad travelers are advised to avoid all protests. They should also follow official directives and leave an area at the first sign of violence.
  • Buenos Aires, Argentina: Protests Advisory | The Association of State Workers announced a 24-hour strike on November 19 starting at 12:00 PM. This strike, organized by the Association of State Workers (ATE) will affect healthcare, transport, administrative offices, and social services. Participants plan to gather at the Ministry of Labor seeking the immediate reopening of wage talks, and to oppose proposed labor reforms that would extend the workday to 12 hours per day, allow severance in installments, replace industry wide agreements with company-level contracts, and tie pay to productivity. Expect residual disruptions to basic essential services for the duration of the strike and demonstration. Travelers should prepare for limited public services, and plan alternate routes due to potential traffic disruptions. Avoid the protest area, and do not interact with the protestors.
  • Brazil: Weather Advisory | Dangerously heavy rainfall and strong winds may bring flooding across the southern states in Brazil starting November 17. Brazil’s National Institute of Meteorology forecasts the storm to be at the level of danger (the middle of three ratings). Cities affected include Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Campinas. Flooding, power outages, and downed trees are possible. Travelers should monitor local media for updates. They should also follow official directives in the case of destruction.

  • India: Security Advisory | Travelers should exercise caution over the coming weeks in New Delhi after a deadly car explosion on November 10 near Lal Quila metro station (Red Fort). The recent incident has been classified as a terrorist attack. Authorities have implemented strict security measures across the National Capital Region, including closure of Lal Quila metro station, reinforced checkpoints, intensified screening, and increased patrols around major transport hubs and urban centers. These measures have resulted in delays and route restrictions. SafeAbroad travelers are advised to keep identification documents readily available for security checks. They should also maintain situational awareness in public, and comply fully with official directives.
  • New Zealand: Weather Advisory | Heavy rainfall is expected to cause dangerous conditions from November 17 to 22 in New Zealand. Severe rain is categorized as being over two inches of rain in under six hours, or four inches in 24 hours. The storm system is expected to hit the North Island on November 17, which is home to the capital Auckland, before moving further south. Flooding is not expected to be as severe as the historic floods that happened a month ago, but is still possible.   • Vietnam: Weather Advisory | Expect continued disruptions from flooding and landslides in Central Vietnam over the next week. Central Vietnam continues to receive heavy rainfall from storms and typhoons, leading to massive flooding. Trains through the area connecting some of the country’s largest cities have been suspended. Landslides continue to occur; on Sunday November 16, a landslide killed 6 when a bus crashed. Travelers are advised to monitor local media for updates and to avoid any devastated areas.
Africa & Middle East
  • Kenya: Travel Advisory | Rideshare drivers across Kenya will stage a nationwide strike on November 17, switching off all apps and halting services until their demands for better pay and fair treatment are met. Organizers are calling on companies such as Uber and Bolt to comply with Transport Network Company regulations, and urging the NTSA and Ministry of Transport to enforce those roles and protect drivers’ rights. Uber and Bolt services are likely to be severely reduced nationwide, driving up demand for metered taxis, hotel cars, and other transportation options, as well as causing delays, especially in major cities. SafeAbroad travelers are advised to make transportation bookings well in advance and allow extra time for journeys. They should also consider backup travel options where available.
  • Senegal: Health Advisory | Rift Valley fever will continue to pose a threat to travelers over the coming weeks. More than 400 Rift Valley fever cases and dozens of associated fatalities have been reported across multiple regions in Senegal. Affected areas include: Dakar, Fatick, Kaffrine, Kedougou, Kaolack, Kolda, Matam, Louga, Saint-Louis, Tambacounda, and Thies, with the Saint-Louis districts of Richard-Toll and Saint-Louis. The virus is primarily spread through contact with the blood, organs, or bodily fluids of infected livestock and through bites from infected mosquitoes and other bloodsucking insects. The current surge is described as the country’s most severe outbreak since 1987. SafeAbroad travelers are advised to avoid contact with livestock and take strict measures to prevent mosquito bites by using effective repellent and wearing long sleeves/pants. They should also seek medical attention promptly if flu-like symptoms develop after potential exposure. 
  • Johannesburg, South Africa: Security Advisory | Expect heightened security and associated disruptions due to the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg from November 22-23. Countries that make up 85% of the world’s GDP will send its leaders to discuss economic issues. Temporary road closures, lane restrictions, and rolling traffic stops are expected in the area around event areas. The number of security authorities will be heightened at the event sites and local airports. SafeAbroad travelers are advised to follow official directives. Transport workers will strike across Lima, Peru, on March 5 over driver killings and extortion; expect citywide travel disruptions.

The Association of Urban Transport Service Operators of Peru will lead a 24-hour strike involving more than 8,000 transport workers across Lima. Drivers will suspend services and convoy from Plaza 2 de Mayo and Plaza San Martin to the Government Palace and Congress. Organizers protest rising killings and armed extortion targeting drivers. Limited air travel resumed in the United Arab Emirates on March 4 following previous airspace closure due to conflict in the region.

Airlines have partially resumed operations in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Travel delays will continue until at least March 6. Air travel slowed in the UAE after several airports were struck by Iran. Not all ongoing flights are commercial, as airlines are assisting with evacuations.
