  • Uruguay: Health Advisory | From June 30 at 8:00 AM to July 1 at 8:00 AM, medical professionals across Uruguay will participate in a nationwide strike organized by the Sindicato Médico del Uruguay (SMU). The work stoppage is supported by the Federación Médica del Interior (FEMI) and the Sindicato Anestésico Quirúrgico (SAQ), and will involve general practitioners, specialists, medical residents, interns, anesthesiologists, and surgeons. The work stoppage was called to oppose a proposed Retirement and Pension Fund bill that would increase contribution rates for active workers and raise deductions for retirees. Most routine medical services will be suspended during the strike period, including non-oncological consultations and outpatient clinics. Urgent care, emergency services, and cancer treatment will remain operational. Travelers are advised to seek treatment at emergency rooms if necessary, plan alternate medical care for non-urgent needs, and confirm service availability with local providers.
  • Quebec, Canada: Health Advisory | Starting July 6, paramedics affiliated with the Federation of Health and Social Services (FSSS-CSN) will begin an indefinite strike across Quebec. Unless averted, the work stoppage will disrupt ambulance service and administrative operations in the pre-hospital care system. Emergency services will remain operational under legal obligations, though delays and reduced capacity are possible. The strike was called in response to the government’s failure to negotiate a new collective agreement more than two years after the previous one expired. The union is demanding wage increases, enforcement of working hour limits to reduce excessive overtime, and improvements to pension provisions. Travelers are advised to plan alternate medical care and transport during the work stoppage. Monitor local media and official sources for updates on service availability.
  • Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Travel Advisory | On July 6-7, the 17th annual BRICS Summit will take place at the Museum of Modern Art in Aterro do Flamengo. From June 30 to July 7, road closures and traffic restrictions will affect Copacabana, Aterro do Flamengo, Glória, Centro, and major expressways. Demonstrators affiliated with civil society and opposition groups may gather near the summit venue, particularly in Centro and Copacabana, to protest BRICS policies and governance practices. The event, which will be attended by President Prabowo Subianto, will prompt extensive traffic management measures from early morning through the evening. Authorities will enforce road closures and diversions across key routes, including Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin, Jalan Gunung Sahari, Jalan Benyamin Suaeb, Jalan Veteran, Jalan Cempaka Putih, and roads surrounding Banteng Field and Kemayoran. Authorities will likely deploy additional security near mosques, procession routes, and marketplaces. • Zambia: Travel Advisory | Over the coming weeks, scheduled power cuts will affect residential areas across Zambia due to a generator shutdown at the Maamba coal-fired power plant. The state-owned utility ZESCO has reduced daily electricity supply for residential customers from seven hours to five hours until further notice. Industrial users, farmers, and essential services are not affected. The reduction in power generation has prompted nationwide load-shedding, with rotating outages expected to continue in the coming weeks. Urban areas may experience traffic signal failures and reduced street lighting during outages. Travelers are advised to confirm whether accommodations have backup power, charge essential devices in advance, and allow additional time for travel in affected areas. Avoid movement after dark where lighting is limited, and monitor ZESCO’s official channels for updates to the load-shedding schedule.
  • Côte d’Ivoire: Health Advisory | From July 1-4, hospital workers affiliated with the Coalition of Health Unions will strike nationwide. The work stoppage will disrupt services at public hospitals and rural health centers across the country. Only essential emergency services will operate at minimum capacity during the strike period. The Coalition organized the strike in response to stalled health sector reforms, delayed compensation for on-call duties, and unmet government commitments to improve working conditions and financial support for healthcare staff. Travelers are advised to plan alternate medical care or seek treatment at emergency rooms if necessary during the strike period.
  • Tunisia: Health Advisory | From July 1-5, thousands of resident and intern doctors affiliated with the Tunisian Organisation of Young Doctors will strike nationwide. The work stoppage will significantly reduce staffing and service availability at public hospitals and healthcare facilities. Emergency services will remain operational but may be limited. The strike was called in response to stalled negotiations with the Ministry of Health over internship accreditation, on-call duty compensation, maternity leave protections, and working conditions. The organisation is also demanding revisions to civil service obligations and an increase in monthly wages, which in some cases fall below 750 dinars. Travelers are advised to plan alternate medical care or seek treatment at emergency rooms if necessary during the strike period.
