The Week Ahead: February 26, 2024

• São Paulo, Brazil: Protest Advisory | On February 25 at the Museum of Art, protesters plan to gather in support of former President Bolsonaro. The event is expected to draw large crowds. Travelers should plan alternative routes in advance to circumvent demonstrations.
• Nationwide, South Korea: Health | From February 25 through March 3, travelers in South Korea should expect severe medical disruptions from doctors striking over a planned increase in the number of physicians nationwide. The medical disaster alert level has been raised to “serious,” which is the highest level on a four-tier scale. Demonstrations will likely be broken up by the police. Travelers should confirm medical appointments and plan for emergencies by noting which facilities are open.

• Madrid, Spain: Protest Advisory | On February 21, a protest involving tractor convoys is expected to take place outside the Ministry of Agriculture. Travelers should expect travel disruptions and avoid all demonstrations by planning alternative routes.
• Nationwide, Haiti: Protest Advisory | Over the coming days, expect nationwide protests demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister. Past protests became violent, resulting in multiple deaths. Travelers are advised to avoid all demonstrations and monitor local media for updates.

• Nicosia and Limassol, Cyprus: Protest Advisory | On February 24, protests will occur in support of Ukraine and denouncing Russia’s invasion. Protestors are expected to gather outside the Russian Embassy in Nicosia and outside the Consulate General of Russia in Limassol. Travelers should not participate in protests, avoid large crowds, plan routes around protests, and monitor the media for updates.

The Week Ahead: February 12, 2024

• Madrid, Spain: Protest Advisory | On February 21, large demonstrations across Madrid may block major highways and roads. Demonstrators are protesting in response to similar actions across Europe against EU farming policies. Plan alternative means of transportation to avoid traveling near demonstration sites. 
• Guayaquil, Ecuador: Weather Advisory | Over the coming days, Guayaquil will likely experience residual effects from recent heavy rain. Debris from flooding, downed power lines, and residual floods are likely to present hazards. Expect travel delays, practice enhanced situational awareness, and monitor local news. 
• Newtown, Australia: Protest Advisory | On February 18, LGBTQIA+ activists in Australia will gather to raise awareness on issues facing their community. The event is planned at Pride Square at 2:00 PM. Travelers should expect delays surrounding the protest venue.
• Multiple Countries: Weather Advisory | Through at least February 12, weather alerts for Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia have been issued. Thunderstorms carrying heavy rain, wind, and hail are expected to affect the area. Be aware of potential flash floods, seek shelter and high ground as needed, and monitor weather reports.

• Valparaiso, Chile: Disaster Advisory | Wildfires are expected to continue in Valparaiso in the coming days. The highest level of alert (red) has been issued by the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service, prompting evacuations and curfews. Expect traffic delays and heed evacuation orders. Monitor local media for evacuation notices and air quality alerts.
• Waitangi, New Zealand: Protest Advisory |  Demonstrations are likely during the National Waitangi Day celebration from February 3–6. Roughly 60,000 people are expected to attend the main events, and anti-government protests are scheduled during the celebrations. Maintain situational awareness and avoid protests. 
• Nationwide, Senegal: Protest Advisory | Protests stemming from the indefinite suspension of the February 25 presidential election are likely across Senegal in the coming days. Expect heightened security and avoid large public gatherings. 

The Week Ahead: January 29, 2024

• Tallinn, Estonia: Protest Advisory | On January 29, teachers will demonstrate in front of Parliament, demanding an increase to the minimum wage. Events are likely to be peaceful, but a large turnout will likely lead to the presence of police and potential traffic disruptions.  
• Nationwide, Mexico: Weather Advisory | Through January 29, expect poor weather in the form of rainstorms and strong winds followed by cold weather, snow, and sleet. Heavy rainfall could lead to flooding in lowlands, and the following cold weather could lead to icy conditions. Monitor local weather reports and remain indoors.
• New Delhi, India: Protest Advisory | On January 29, rail workers will gather at 9:00 AM at the Jantar Mantar monument to demand better recruitment efforts to fill vacancies. Avoid protests.
• Cape Town, South Africa: Disaster Advisory | Over the coming days, emergency services will continue to respond to a wildfire in Table Mountain National Park. Evacuation notices have been issued for parts of the park, and more evacuations may take place. Monitor local news media and air quality alerts.

The Week Ahead: January 22, 2024

• Nationwide, Ireland and UK: Weather Advisory | Through at least January 22, Storm Isha is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain across Ireland and the United Kingdom. Flooding is possible in lowlands, and power outages may occur. Plan for travel disruptions and monitor local news media.
• Vancouver, Canada: Protest Advisory | Beginning at 3:00 AM on January 22, Coast Mountain Bus Company and SeaBus workers plan to stage a 48-hour work stoppage. Plan to utilize other bus companies for the duration of the stoppage. 
• Kolkata, India: Protest Advisory | On January 22, activists from various religions will conduct the “Rally for Harmony,” marching from Hazra Crossing to Park Circus Maidan and stopping at places of worship along the route. Plan for travel disruptions and avoid demonstrations.
• Monrovia, Liberia: Security Advisory | Through January 22, heightened security measures will be in place in accordance with the presidential inauguration. Travelers will be required to show their passports for road access; several roads will be closed on January 22, and motorcycles and heavy trucks are banned from Tubman Boulevard and Roberts International Airport Road until January 23. Carry all personal documents and monitor local media for road closures. Comply with all security forces. 

The Week Ahead: January 15, 2024

• Paris and Lyon, France: Protest Advisory | On January 14 at 3:00 PM, protesters will gather at Place de la Republique in Paris and at 2:00 PM in Place Bellecour in Lyon to protest against the “Darmanin Law,” which reforms immigration laws. Protests have the chance of escalating into violent clashes with law enforcement. Plan journeys to avoid protests. 
• Toay, Argentina: Protest Advisory | On January 14, an unknown number of protesters opposing President Javier Milei’s Decree of Necessity and Urgency will gather at 7:30pm at Plaza San Martin. Violent dispersal is possible, so it is recommended to avoid all protests and plan routes around the location.
• Nationwide, India: Protest Advisory | Through at least mid January, large protests are expected to continue across India in the wake of announced changes to the Motor Vehicles Act, which increase punishments for drivers convicted of hit-and-runs. Transportation disruptions should be expected due to roadblocks and work stoppages. Plan routes and confirm travel with drivers before departure. 
•Tunis, Tunisia: Protest Advisory | On January 14, opposition protesters demanding the release of political prisoners plan to gather at 10am at Republic Square and march to Avenue Habib Bourguiba. Demonstrations are expected to remain peaceful, but traffic disruptions are possible. Plan and confirm routes around the protest in advance.
