As of 20 July, heavy rainfall has caused flooding throughout China. This has affected Beijing, Inner Mongolia, Anhui, Fujian, Hebei, and Henan. The storms are expected to continue their damage as they move south and affect Guangdong, Yunnan, and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Rescue operations are occurring in the affected areas.
From 20 July to 21 July expect flight disruptions at Catania Fontanarossa Airport in Italy due to increased volcanic activity at Mount Etna. Resultant ashfall has also prompted flight delays. Officials have stated there is no immediate threat to the public at this time.
Due to the Summer Olympics taking place in Japan, heightened security and travel delays are expected to occur. On 19 July traffic restrictions will be put in place near competition venues. Dedicated traffic lanes will be put in place for non-Olympic-related travelers. Expect these delays and security presence until at least 9 August.
Strikes are expected throughout Portugal by airport workers throughout the rest of July into August. The strikes began at 00:01 on 17 July to 23:59 on 18 July and will continue on 31 July at 00:01 until 2 August. The strikes are due to poor payments and working conditions, airport delays are expected.
Tropical Storm In-Fa will pass through Okinawa on 20-21 July. According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, heavy rain and wind gusts exceeding 80 miles per hour are predicted. This will lead to flooding, landslides, and structural damage in Okinawa similar to recent storms in the area. Travel disruptions at the Naha Airport (OKA) are possible.
Anti-Racism activist Assa Traore has organized a press conference and protest march against police violence on 17 July. The initial gathering will take place at 14:00 local time at the Persan-Beaumont train station. Other protests related to the initial one are expected to take place in other major urban centers. Gatherings of fewer than 5,000 are allowed, but security forces may use heavy measures to disperse unruly crowds.
As of 16 July, at least 100 people have been killed in Germany, 22 in Belgium, and over 1,500 have been reported missing due to heavy rainfall. The areas most heavily affected by the rain are Rhineland-Palatinate, North Rhine-Westphalia where 4,500 residents were evacuated due to structural damage to the Steinbach dam, and Saarland. Flash flooding and landslides have been occurring throughout the region.
Yellow vest protestors plan to protest in Paris on 14 July. Participants are expected to gather at Champs-Elysees at 10:00 local time. A march will also be staged at 15:00, where participants will gather at Place de Clichy before marching to Place de la Republique. Protests are against the implementation of the Health Pass, providing COVID-19 vaccination, and will take place in addition to Bastille Day events.
A storm warning has been initiated until 14 July in case of flash floods and other destructive weather systems in Western Australia. The inclement weather is likely to cause disruptions in power, travel routes, and at the Perth Airport (PER).
On 12 July, authorities deployed the military to the Gauteng and Kwazulu Natal Provinces in response to ongoing violent protests. Hundreds of demonstrators have been arrested for rioting due to participation in looting, arson, and vandalism. As of 21:33 local time, at least 219 people have been arrested and at least six have been killed.
