Flooding Throughout China On July 20 as Storms Bring Heavy Rainfall

As of 20 July, heavy rainfall has caused flooding throughout China. This has affected Beijing, Inner Mongolia, Anhui, Fujian, Hebei, and Henan. The storms are expected to continue their damage as they move south and affect Guangdong, Yunnan, and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Rescue operations are occurring in the affected areas.

Tropical Storm In-Fa to Affect Okinawa, Japan Through July 21

Tropical Storm In-Fa will pass through Okinawa on 20-21 July. According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, heavy rain and wind gusts exceeding 80 miles per hour are predicted. This will lead to flooding, landslides, and structural damage in Okinawa similar to recent storms in the area. Travel disruptions at the Naha Airport (OKA) are possible.

Anti-Police Violence Protest at the in Beaumont-sur-Oise, France on July 17

Anti-Racism activist Assa Traore has organized a press conference and protest march against police violence on 17 July. The initial gathering will take place at 14:00 local time at the Persan-Beaumont train station. Other protests related to the initial one are expected to take place in other major urban centers. Gatherings of fewer than 5,000 are allowed, but security forces may use heavy measures to disperse unruly crowds.

Fatalities and People Missing in West Germany and Belgium on July 16 Due to Intense Floods

As of 16 July, at least 100 people have been killed in Germany, 22 in Belgium, and over 1,500 have been reported missing due to heavy rainfall. The areas most heavily affected by the rain are Rhineland-Palatinate, North Rhine-Westphalia where 4,500 residents were evacuated due to structural damage to the Steinbach dam, and Saarland. Flash flooding and landslides have been occurring throughout the region.

Protests on July 14 in Paris, France in Addition to Bastille Day

Yellow vest protestors plan to protest in Paris on 14 July. Participants are expected to gather at Champs-Elysees at 10:00 local time. A march will also be staged at 15:00, where participants will gather at Place de Clichy before marching to Place de la Republique. Protests are against the implementation of the Health Pass, providing COVID-19 vaccination, and will take place in addition to Bastille Day events.
