Due to the recent Ebola outbreak in Uganda, travelers will now be directed to several airports to be screened for signs of the virus. These airports are: Washington-Dulles International; Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta; Newark Liberty International; JFK International; Chicago-O’Hare International. While there are no known Ebola cases in the US, medical officials are remaining alert.

Hurricane Orlene, a Category 1 storm, reached southwest Mexico on October 3. While it is expected to weaken into a tropical storm, strong winds and heavy rain will likely affect Mexico until at least October 5.

Nationwide railway worker strikes will take place across the United Kingdom on several dates between October 1 and 10.

Rail workers of the National Union of Rail, Maritime, and Transport have begun nationwide strikes across much of the United Kingdom. The strikes will take place on October 1, 5, 8, and 10. The strikes were organized in order to demand better wages. Railway delays and cancellations are expected in many cities across England and Scotland throughout early October.

Armed criminals took several hostages inside a school in Sao Paulo, Brazil on September 29.

A security operation occurred in western Sao Paulo, Brazil on September 29. Four criminals were confronted by police and engaged in a shootout. The criminals then escaped into Pingu’s English School-Jd Bonfiglioli, were they took several hostages. They eventually surrendered after a three and a half hour stand off. The area around the school is closed due to the ongoing police investigation.

The Conservative Political Action Conference is planned at the International Convention Center (ICC) in Sydney, Australia from October 1-2. Activists from the Campaign Against Racism and Fascism and Community Action for Rainbow Rights are planning to protest the event.

The streets were temporarily cordoned off, causing travel delays and traffic diversions.
