Protests Against Prime Minister in Bangkok, Thailand on August 16

On August 16, a protest demanding the resignation of the military backed-Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is scheduled to be held in Bangkok. Protesters are planning to gather at the Democracy Monument from 15:00-21:00 local time. Although the expected turnout for the protest has not yet been confirmed, previous related gatherings have been attended by thousands of protesters.

Demonstrations to Take Place in Edinburg, United Kingdom on August 13

A demonstration by activists in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community in Poland is scheduled to take place in Prince Street Gardens on August 13, 2020, at approximately 16:30 local time by the Wojtek Monument. The expected duration and demonstrator turn out is currently unknown. However, potential disruptions to traffic are expected.

Protests in Cordoba, Argentina to Take Place August 13

Activists are calling for a demonstration at 18:30 local time on August 13 on Avenida Colon in Cordoba, Argentine. The demonstrators are looking to protest the alleged killing of a young person by police. A heightened security presence and related transportation disruptions are expected in the area.

Canada to Take on Heatwave August 10 through August 13

A heatwave will affect Eastern Canada from August 10th to at least August 13th. Temperatures as high as 28º-32º C are highly likely. The excessive heat and dry conditions may lead to increased wildfire activity making air conditions dangerous for vulnerable groups such as children, elderly, and those with respiratory issues.

Severe Weather to Affect China Between August 6 and 9

Rounds of heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms are forecasted to affect parts of Northern and Eastern China between August 6 and 9. The China Meteorological Administration has already issued bulletins for heavy rain, flooding, and convective storms across parts of the affected areas. The storms will be capable of producing strong winds, heavy rainfall, and small hail. Gusts in excess of 97 kph (60 mph) are possible and power outages and flooding are likely.

Protests Across Poland to Take Place on August 7

The Strike of the Angry and Movement of Eight Stars have called for protests in Warsaw, Katowice, Koszalin, Krakow, and Lublin on 7 August at 18:00 local time. The purpose of these demonstrations is to express dissatisfaction with the leadership and policies of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party and frustration with the government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in Poland. While expectations for violence are generally low, the frustrated nature of the demonstrations may lead to escalation resulting in violence.

Demonstrations in Colombia on August 6

Various civic organizations have called for demonstrations in the major urban centers of Bogota, Bucaramanga, Monteria, and Yopal on August 6 beginning at 9:00 local time. The demonstrations have been organized to protest against the Supreme Court’s decision that placed former President Álvaro Uribe under house arrest while conducting an investigation into fraud and bribery of witnesses. Protest caravans and other travel disruptions may occur in these areas.

Nationwide Protests in South Korea to Take Place August 7

On August 7, the Korean Intern Resident Association (KIRA) has planned a nationwide strike to denounce a health sector reform plan. Protesters are likely to gather outside hospitals and other medical facilities. Additionally, the strike will likely lead to medical disruptions and understaffed facilities because the group represents resident doctors and interns.
