Florence Airport to Close From February 1 to March 20

Beginning 1 February, Florence Airport (FLR) will close due to resurfacing procedures at the airport’s only runway. Flights to or from FLR will either cancel or reroute to the two nearest airports: Pisa International Airport (PSA) and Bologna Airport (BLQ). The airport closure is set to last until March 20, but disruptions are possible after reopening.

Red Alert for Northern Counties in Norway Through January 23

As of 21 January, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute issued a red alert for northern counties including Nordland and Troms og Finnmark due to strong winds and icy conditions through 23 January. The red alert issued is the highest on the three-tier scale, and with high winds and low temperatures, power supply and transportation may be affected.

Nationwide Protests Across France on January 16

On January 16, nationwide protests are expected over the recent controversial national security law. The largest protest will be in Paris at Place Felix-Eboue at 12:00 where thousands of protesters will march to Place de la Bastille. Demonstrations will also occur in Bordeaux, Grenoble, Le Mans, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Montpellier, Nancy, Nice, Toulon, Toulouse, and additional towns and cities.

Flash Floods Affecting Johannesburg, South Africa as of January 11

As of 11 January, Johannesburg experienced great rainfall which led to flooding. Additional rainfall and potential flash floods are expected. Damages to property and infrastructure have been reported, and further flooding would affect roads and low-lying areas as well as power and telecommunication outages.

Demonstrations in Berlin, Germany Set for January 10

On 10 January, a demonstration by the Luxembourg Liebknecht Alliance to mark the 102nd anniversary of the deaths of revolutionary socialists Rosa Luxembourg and Karl Liebknecht. Demonstrators are expected to gather in Frankfurter Allee at the corner of Warschauer Strasse at 10:00 local time.

Aviation Worker Strikes in Italy on January 8

On 8 January, aviation sector workers plan to stage three separate strikes resulting in work stoppages. Blue Panorama Airlines workers will strike for 24 hours beginning at 00:01, Milan Malpensa Airport workers from 10:00-14:00, and Milan Linate Airport workers from 08:00 to 16:00. Travel delays are expected.
