The National Inter-Union of Interns, among other affiliated unions, will oppose the government’s plan to allow universities to add another year of internship for medical students. The protest will take place outside the Ministry of Health at 2:00 PM. Traffic disruptions in the area are likely. Medical appointment cancellations are expected.

A protest by the far-right political party, Alternative for Germany (AfD) will take place in Berlin, Germany on October 8. The protesters will gather at Republic Square at 1:00 PM. They will then march through the government district, the historic center, and to the Russian embassy, before finishing with a rally back in Republic Square. Counter-protests by those opposed to the AfD are expected. Clashes between the rival groups, or with local police, are possible.

Travelers from Uganda are to go to one of several United States airports to be screened for signs of Ebola.

The United States issued a new directive on October 6 for travelers from Uganda. Due to the recent Ebola outbreak in Uganda, travelers will now be directed to several airports to be screened for signs of the virus. These airports are: Washington-Dulles International; Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta; Newark Liberty International; JFK International; Chicago-O’Hare International. While there are no known Ebola cases in the US, medical officials are remaining alert.

Travel disruptions are expected at the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands for the coming months. This is due to a staff shortage caused by a staffing layoff made during the Covid-19 pandemic. Further strain from the up-take in travel after Covid restrictions were lifted has caused the airport to cut their number of flights. The disruptions are likely continue for the foreseeable future.

A kidnapping attempt and shoot-out took place in Guadalajara, Mexico on October 2. Expect heightened security for the coming days.

A kidnapping attempt took place at Zapopan’s Plaza Andares in Guadalajara, Mexico on October 2. Military forces were deployed to the mall, which led to a shoot-out with the criminals. At least one person was killed and six more were injured. More police officers have since been deployed to the vicinity to deter further criminal activity. Heightened security in the area is expected for the coming days.

Hurricane Orlene, a Category 1 storm, reached southwest Mexico on October 3. While it is expected to weaken into a tropical storm, strong winds and heavy rain will likely affect Mexico until at least October 5.

On October 3, Hurricane Orlene made landfall in Mexico as a Category 1 storm. 85 mph winds were reported in Nayarit and Sinaloa states. The hurricane will weaken into a tropical storm after it crosses southern Sinaloa and western Durango states on early October 4. Landslides and flooding are likely result from heavy rain.

Nationwide railway worker strikes will take place across the United Kingdom on several dates between October 1 and 10.

Rail workers of the National Union of Rail, Maritime, and Transport have begun nationwide strikes across much of the United Kingdom. The strikes will take place on October 1, 5, 8, and 10. The strikes were organized in order to demand better wages. Railway delays and cancellations are expected in many cities across England and Scotland throughout early October.

Armed criminals took several hostages inside a school in Sao Paulo, Brazil on September 29.

A security operation occurred in western Sao Paulo, Brazil on September 29. Four criminals were confronted by police and engaged in a shootout. The criminals then escaped into Pingu’s English School-Jd Bonfiglioli, were they took several hostages. They eventually surrendered after a three and a half hour stand off. The area around the school is closed due to the ongoing police investigation.
