Exercise caution in the coming hours in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, following a ski-resort fire on January 1 at 1:30 AM. The incident occurred at Le Constellation bar at the ski-resort of Crans-Montana following a series of fatal explosions according to unconfirmed eyewitness reports. There are reported dozens of casualties and at least 100 injuries, most of which are between the ages of 16-26. A heightened presence of emergency services and associated traffic disruptions in the immediate and surrounding area are expected over the coming days.

Chinese military exercises will cause massive delays and cancellations on Taiwan on December 30.

A Chinese military exercise will cause massive flight disruptions on Taiwan starting December 30. China has already moved military assets into place to conduct exercises which has prompted the mass cancellation of flights into and from Taiwan. It is estimated that over 100,000 international flight passengers will be affected by these cancellations or diversions. The exercises will take place between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, however residual delays are expected to cause disruptions past the end of the event.

Tropical Storm Hayley is expected to bring heavy rains and damage in Western Australia, Australia starting December 29.

Tropical storm Hayley is expected to bring heavy rain and possible flooding starting December 29 to coastal regions of Western Australia. A cyclone watch and Act Warning is in place for the area between South Beagle Bay and Cockatoo Island in anticipation of the storm which is expected to become a category 4 level cyclone. The storm will have anticipated wind speeds of up to 105 mph. An evacuation center has opened in Broome.

Independent general practitioners will strike across France to oppose the proposed 2026 Social Security Financing Bill. Upwards of 4,500 healthcare professionals are expected to participate. Access to independent practices’ offices will be limited or completely unavailable for appointments during this time. Emergency services will still be available.

A mass protest in downtown Valencia, Spain will cause disruptions during the evening of December 27.

A protest march will cause disruptions throughout Valencia, Spain on December 27 starting at 6:00 PM. Protesters demand that former regional president Carlos Manzón resigns from his seat in parliament following his government’s inept response to the catastrophic floods that hit the area in late October of 2024. Thousands of protesters will march from the city hall square, along Poeta Querol, Marqués de Dos Aguas, Paz, Reina, Brodadors, and Micalet streets, and end at Plaza de la Virgen.

Flooding will continue to cause disruptions across southern France over the coming days. Southern France has been receiving rainfall since Monday December 22 has resulted in several cases of flooding. Many of the country’s southern departments are under a yellow warning, with Aveyron at an orange, and Hérault at a red. Flooding occurred late on Monday across both the Hérault and Gard departments. Flooding is expected to gradually stabilize over the coming days.

A series of ground handler strikes will disrupt flights during over the coming weeks at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. Demonstrations are aimed to voice frustration over poor management and underpayment of workers. The strikes will take place on December 23, 26, 30 and January 2 and 7. Significant disruptions are likely due to the market share of the unions involved in Spanish aviation and the additional strain of the holiday period. 

Mass protests are expected to continue across Honduras until elections counts are in and immediately following the results.

Expect large scale protests to continue in Honduras over the coming weeks due to election irregularities. The results of November 30’s elections have not been released amid a neck-and-neck race between the two leading candidates, which have led to allegations of election fraud. Protests have become commonplace, with many also aimed at rejecting comments made by U.S. President Trump who backs the current leading candidate. Protests following the results are likely due to the scale of controversy surrounding the count.

Expect protests to continue across Bolivia over the coming weeks following the end of fuel subsidies.

Additional protests are likely to cause disruptions across Bolivia over the coming weeks. Government officials have indicated that they will not reverse their decision to cut long-standing fuel subsidies which sparked ongoing protests. Several roadblocks across six departments are blocking traffic. Bolivia’s largest trade union also declared an indefinite strike that started Monday December 22. Major cities have seen protests with thousands of protesters. Demonstrations have remained largely peaceful at this point but can potentially turn dangerous quickly.
