It is expected to peak on Tuesday where temperatures could reach up to 122 degrees Fahrenheit, breaking records. These temperatures also bring a heightened fire risk, including an “extreme” risk to Melbourne on January 27.

A train crash is causing major disruptions to railways throughout southern Spain on January 19.

A high-speed train crash on January 19 caused fatalities and has disrupted train services across southern Spain. The collision occurred just north of Cordoba when two trains collided. At least 39 people have died with 150 people injured at this time.. High-speed service between Madrid and Córdoba, Seville, Málaga, and Huelva have been cancelled for the day. Service between Madrid and Cádiz, Algeciras, and Granada will also be affected.

A major bushfire has closed part of the Hume Freeway connecting Sydney and Melbourne, Australia on January 8.

A bushfire will disrupt traffic between Melbourne and Sydney, Australia through January 11. The Hume Freeway that connect Melbourne with Sydney has closed been closed in both directions between Seymour and Violet Town. Victoria State emergency services declared an emergency zone that affects this stretch of highway due to the severity of the fire. The road is expected to remain closed through the weekend as weather conditions, including strong winds, are projected to strengthen the ongoing fire.

The Feast of the Black Nazarene is a religious holiday that draws millions of attendees to the streets of Manila every year, with an estimated eight million participating in 2025’s celebrations. The event centers around Manila’s Qiapo neighborhood where a procession of religious iconography will take place. Significant road closures will start on January 8.

Protesting farmers will block highways and ports of entry across Greece for 48-hours from January 7-8.

A major 48-hour protest by Greek farmers will block travel throughout Greece from January 7-8. Farmers are escalating previous protests against a proposed EU-Mercosur trade deal along with national level agricultural policy grievances. Many major highways will be blocked as well as border entry points. Roadblocks are expected to close the Bralos junction, Thessaloniki-Athens national road, western Macedonia, Rio-Antirio tolls, and Nea Malgara near Thessaloniki. Other locations will also be affected.

The U.S. operation in Venezuela has caused massive flight disruptions across the Caribbean on January 3.

Major airline cancellations are taking place on January  3 following the U.S. operation in Venezuela. Following the military operation that captured Venezuelan President Maduro, the Federal Aviation Authority ordered U.S. carriers to avoid parts of eastern Caribbean airspace. Hundreds of flights have been cancelled by multiple carriers, including non-domestic airlines. Over 50 percent of Puerto Rico’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport have been cancelled.
