Violent “Gen Z” protests on September 8 in Nepal cause travel disruptions and security threats; expect flight disruptions

Protests over the government’s social media ban in Kathmandu, Nepal turned deadly after security forces opened fire on protesters, killing 19. In the following hours, protesters responded by attacking government buildings and politician homes with hand grenades and improvised incendiary devices. The Nepalese government has responded with military force to quiet the protests, locking down the border with India and shutting down all airports.
