Incident Details

Japanese officials warn of a potential megaquake through December 16. This follows a 7.5 earthquake in Northern Japan on Monday. Coastal areas from Hokkaido to Chiba prefecture are affected. An initial tsunami warning was lifted. Officials warn that despite the increased likelihood of a megaquake, the chance of it happening is still low. Despite the overall low chance, potential effects would be devastating.
