Health officials have declared an outbreak of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) in the Khomas region of Namibia since November 23.

There has been one confirmed fatal case of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) in the Khomas region of Namibia as of November 23. This potentially fatal virus is transmitted through tick bites, or contact with the bodily fluids of infected animals or people. It is a flu-like illness, with additional symptoms like abdominal pain and bleeding.

Traveler Safety

Travelers are advised to prevent tick bites by wearing protective clothing and insect repellant, and avoiding wooded areas or tall grass fields. Avoid direct contact with animals and sick people. If a tick bite is found, safely remove it and seek immediate medical attention. There is no vaccine.
