Chinese authorities have shut down public transportation across Hainan and Guangdong as Typhoon Matmo nears landfall around 12:00 PM on October 5 during Golden Week. All flights at Haikou Meilan International Airport (HAK) have been canceled from October 4 with train and ferry services being suspended as well. Haikou and Zhanjiang will further pause schools, work, and local transport as spillover impacts are expected across Guangxi, Yunnan, and Hong Kong.
