A series of ground handler strikes will disrupt flights arriving to and departing from Madrid, Spain’s main airport over the coming weeks.

Incident Details

A series of ground handler strikes will disrupt flights during over the coming weeks at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. Demonstrations are aimed to voice frustration over poor management and underpayment of workers. The strikes will take place on December 23, 26, 30 and January 2 and 7. Significant disruptions are likely due to the market share of the unions involved in Spanish aviation and the additional strain of the holiday period.

Traveler Safety

SafeAbroad are advised to reconfirm flights and monitor their status as their times get closer. They should also consider alternate transportation if necessary such as high speed rail.
