The Hume Freeway that connect Melbourne with Sydney has closed been closed in both directions between Seymour and Violet Town. Victoria State emergency services declared an emergency zone that affects this stretch of highway due to the severity of the fire. The road is expected to remain closed through the weekend as weather conditions, including strong winds, are projected to strengthen the ongoing fire.
