Consuming 25 milliliters of methanol can be fatal, but it is sometimes found in drinks that contain cheap alcohol. Methanol has no taste or odor. Symptoms of poisoning can include nausea, vomiting, heart or respiratory failure, abdominal pain, loss of consciousness, and blindness. Travelers are advised to only buy alcohol from licensed liquor stores, bars, and hotels. Make sure the alcohol is name brand and check for tampering and counterfeiting. Do not accept drinks from strangers and do not leave drinks unattended. Seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms. 
  • Seoul, South Korea: Travel Advisory | On November 28, metro workers will strike to demand the network to hire more workers.   • New Zealand: Health Advisory | Since September, New Zealand has been experiencing an increase in pertussis (whooping cough) cases. Pertussis can be life-fatal if left untreated. Travelers should be up to date on immunization including boosters.   • South Africa: Health Advisory | On November 22, South Africa declared foodborne illness or food poisoning a national disaster. Since September, about 900 people have been affected, and over 20 fatalities have been reported. Symptoms include diarrhea, stomach pain or cramps, headache, nausea, and vomiting. The illness has not been linked to a single cause. Authorities have imposed stricter food handling practices, food safety guidelines, and inspections. Travelers should practice personal hygiene and select food, water, and other beverages carefully. Make sure food has been thoroughly cooked and water is boiled or bottled. Avoid ice and raw fruits and vegetables. Seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms. 
  • Uganda: Security Advisory | On November 22, the US Embassy issued a security alert for Uganda due to the start of the holiday season. The Allied Democratic Forces, an Islamic militant group, is active in Uganda.
