El Niño rains are expected to exacerbate Panama’s rainy season, increasing the threat of Dengue Fever transmission due to higher levels of mosquito populations. Panama has already seen 6,000 cases of the disease this year, with the metropolitan region having the largest numbers of infected. Dengue Fever commonly causes fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain, nausea and rash.
