Transportation may seem simple, but there are some safety precautions to take when choosing your mode of transportation.

Each has its pros and cons. The following are all forms of transportation you may consider taking: Airplanes, Buses, Taxies, Uber/Lyft, Trains, Ferries, Boat, Bicycle, Moped/Motorcycle, Subway and Emergency Transportation.

Local Transportation Hubs
While in transportation hubs, look for English translations of signs and markings. It is common for highly trafficked tourist areas to have English signage as well. If not, make sure to use a translation device. Get to know the local transportation systems and their customs in regards to usage.
Larger Transportation Forms
When using larger forms of transportation such as trains, buses, or the airport, make sure you know the exact times that your transportation leaves and plan accordingly for travel to those destinations.
Taxi or Rideshare Company
If you decide to use a taxi or rideshare company, double check that the car they sent to you is the one you get into. When using vehicles that you must rent, follow all directions given by the vender and research local traffic laws, as laws and regulations may be vastly different than those in the US. Be certain that your visa allows you to drive in that country before renting a vehicle.

Do NOT accept food or drink items from strangers at any time, even in a Lyft or Uber. Do NOT hold items for strangers or let them touch your luggage; watch your belongings at all times. Travel in groups day and night and be aware of your surroundings.
