Lima has been the primary center for protests, in relation to the removal of the interim President, José Jeri. Peru’s congress removed him from his position following allegations of corruption. Gatherings may take place near government buildings, public plazas, and primary transportation hubs. Within central districts, the government has increased the presence of security forces. Travelers are advised to avoid all demonstrations, and areas present with large gatherings. They should also maintain awareness when in large crowds.
  • Mexico: Security Advisory | A visible heightened security presence should be expected across Mexico over the coming weeks following an outbreak of violence on February 22. The death of senior cartel leader “El Mencho” spurred retaliatory attacks by his group consisting of roadblocks, airport closures, and sporadic violent attacks. A gunman has opened fire at the Teotihuacan Pyramids on April 20. The armed individual opened fire from the top of the Pyramid of the Moon resulting in one death and 13 injured. Authorities assess the attack is a lone-actor incident. The incident is no longer active following the perpetrator’s self – inflicted gunshot wounds.
