  • Italy: Travel Advisory | Airport staff will hold a 24-hour strike nationwide in Italy at Milan Linate, Florence, and Pisa airports on October 29. Airport staff in Italy will walk out in a coordinated strike, affecting major travel hubs and potentially grounding flights at Milan Linate (LIN), Florence Peretola (FLR), and Pisa Galileo Galilei (PSA) airports. The action will disrupt flights and cause delays nationwide.  Airport staff and unions are protesting low wages, staffing shortages, and poor working conditions.   • London, United Kingdom : Protest Advisory | Members of the Ukraine Solidarity Campaign will gather outside Millbank Tower in London, United Kingdom on October 28. The Ukraine Solidarity Campaign has organized the protest, starting at 5:30 PM, to denounce the alleged links between the political party Reform UK and Russia. Millbank Tower is the headquarters of right wing populist party Reform U.K. A moderate to large turnout is expected. Travelers are advised to avoid all protests and demonstrations. They should also plan alternate routes to circumvent protest locations.
  • United Kingdom: Travel Advisory | Aer Lingus cabin crews at Manchester Airport (MAN), unionized by Unite, will strike over the coming weeks starting October 30-November 2, November 9-11, November 14, and November 16-18 over pay grievances. Expect flight disruptions, schedule changes, and residual delays at MAN for Aer Lingus services during these periods. SafeAbroad travelers should reconfirm bookings directly with Aer Lingus/MAN before departure, monitor airline notifications for rebooking options, and allow extra time for airport processes. Consider alternative flight provider routes on strike days.

  • Caribbean: Weather Advisory | Tropical Storm Melissa strengthened into a category 5 hurricane and is expected to make landfall in Jamaica on October 27 and 28, Cuba late on the 28th, and the Bahamas on the 29th. Several Caribbean countries brace for heavy rain and historic flooding this week. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) says life-threatening and catastrophic flash flooding and landslides are expected in portions of southern Hispaniola island, shared by Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica into midweek. Jamaica is expected to receive up to 40 inches of rain as winds have already hit 160 mph. Travelers are advised to defer non-essential travel to Jamaica until at least October 30. Activate hurricane-response plans, including preparations to depart or stand fast in a secure location. Follow all official directives, including evacuation orders. 
  • Mexico: Travel Advisory | Expect a heightened security presence and travel disruptions throughout city centers nationwide over the coming week, as large-scale celebrations will take place daily leading up to the holiday, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). This holiday is observed on November 1 and 2 of this year; however, citizens are expected participate in various festivities all week long. Activities will draw massive crowds and cause localized disruptions, as Dia de los Muertos is one of the country’s most celebrated holidays. Travelers should exercise caution if attending or journeying near these celebrations and allow extra time for transportation. Travelers are also advised to frequently monitor local media outlets for directives and event updates.
  • Panama: Health Advisory | Cases of Oropouche virus increased and spread across seven regions in Panama as of October 24. Health officials have reported a recent uptick in Oropouche virus infection rates due to deforestation and increasingly warm climates. With the noticeable extension of warmer seasons this year, the virus is expected to maintain a strong presence over the coming weeks. The virus is primarily transmitted to humans from midge and mosquito bites, and there is currently no vaccine. Common symptoms include high fevers, headaches, muscle and joint pain, and potential skin rashes. The virus is currently active in Panamá Metro, Los Santos, Herrera, Panamá Norte, Veraguas, Panamá Oeste, Coclé, Darién, and Panamá Este. Travelers should also wear body-protective clothing, use bug repellent, and monitor local news sources for further updates on the virus.

  • Vietnam: Health Advisory | Leptospirosis infections are on the rise in Vietnam due to recent flooding in the northern provinces. Cases of moderate or severe leptospirosis have led to several patients being hospitalized at Vietnam’s Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases. Cases are almost entirely being attributed to contaminated floodwaters. Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that infects animals, but can be passed to humans. People who hike, camp, swim, or work outdoors are at higher risk of infection. Symptoms include fever, headache, chills and muscle pains, vomiting, diarrhea, a rash, and conjunctivitis. It can cause kidney, liver, heart, and respiratory problems, as well as meningitis if left untreated; serious symptoms can become fatal. It can only be treated with antibiotics. Travelers are advised to avoid swimming or other water-treading activities while in the northern provinces of Vietnam. If unable to avoid contact with potential contamination, travelers should wear protective clothing and footwear.
  • Gyeongju, South Korea: Security Advisory | South Korean security forces will have a heightened presence through the end of the Apec CEO andAsia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summits in Gyeongju on November 1. The APEC CEO summit (October 28–31) and the APEC Summit will draw high-level visits by international leaders prompting increased security measures. 18,500 police personnel will continue to patrol around the  Bomun Tourist Complex where the event is set to take place. Temporary but significant traffic disruptions have already resulted from security measures. Travelers should expect increased checks at airports, continued security presence in the area, and an increased risk of demonstrations.
  • Tokyo, Japan: Security Advisory | U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Tokyo will extend to October 29 prompting heightened security and related disruptions. Around 18,000 police personnel will be deployed, with security checkpoints near key locations, including the US embassy. Temporary traffic restrictions will be in place for some sections of the Metropolitan Expressway and other key roads in central Tokyo. These include the Inner Circular Route, Routes 1 (Ueno), 2 (Meguro), 3 (Shibuya), 4 (Shinjuku), 10 (Harumi), 11 (Daiba), the Bayshore Route and the Chuo Expressway. Authorities have advised avoiding central Tokyo and the expressway by private vehicles and to utilize public transport instead.

  • Cameroon: Protest Advisory | Protests in Cameroon are expected to continue over the coming weeks following the presidential election on October  12. Demonstrators have been voicing their anger, alleging that the rigged system allowed 92-year-old President Paul Biya to win again as this mornings results confirmed. There have been mass arrests throughout the country where authorities have detained dozens of opposition figures and activists accusing them of trying to instigate rebellion. Law enforcement officials have enhanced security and used force to break up demonstrations. Travelers should avoid protests and interacting with protesters. Travelers are also advised to monitor local news for updates.
  • Saudi Arabia: Travel Advisory | After November 1, Saudi Arabia mandates that travelers entering or leaving Saudi Arabia carrying certain medications must obtain electronic clearance prior to travel from the Saudi government authorities. Common medications affected include prescription pain, anxiety, and ADHD medication. Before traveling, travelers should look at the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) to view and understand the guidelines. Travelers must comply with these regulations and should expect serious penalties for not following these new guidelines.
  • Cairo, Egypt: Travel Advisory | Cairo University will host its annual Career Expo on October 29–30, drawing thousands of students, alumni, and recruiters to the university district. The event is expected to cause significant traffic congestion around Giza Street, Nahda Square, and the university gates. Organizers have confirmed participation from major employers and academic institutions. In previous years, student groups have staged demonstrations during the expo to protest youth unemployment and lack of government support for graduates. Authorities are preparing for possible protest activity and increased crowd control measures. Travelers are advised to avoid Cairo University during the event dates. They should also expect delays and heightened security presence around the area.

Transport workers will strike across Lima, Peru, on March 5 over driver killings and extortion; expect citywide travel disruptions.

The Association of Urban Transport Service Operators of Peru will lead a 24-hour strike involving more than 8,000 transport workers across Lima. Drivers will suspend services and convoy from Plaza 2 de Mayo and Plaza San Martin to the Government Palace and Congress. Organizers protest rising killings and armed extortion targeting drivers. The strike may reduce transport availability and increase delays.

Limited air travel resumed in the United Arab Emirates on March 4 following previous airspace closure due to conflict in the region.

Airlines have partially resumed operations in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Travel delays will continue until at least March 6. Air travel slowed in the UAE after several airports were struck by Iran. Not all ongoing flights are commercial, as airlines are assisting with evacuations.
