A 30-day state of emergency was declared in the capital of Peru starting October 22. This declaration made by Peru’s new president Jerí in an attempt to limit violence within the city after a wave of violent protests. Soldiers have already started patrolling the streets. Some civil liberties will be suspended including the freedom of assembly.
