Residual disruptions expected following shooting which led to the death of former Ukrainian politician in Madrid, Spain, on May 21.

On May 21, Andriy Portnov, a former Pro-Russia Ukrainian Politician was shot several times outside Colegio Americano de Madrid. The police were called around 9:15 AM and reported that several people attacked Portnov and fled to a nearby forest area. Investigations are ongoing and police continue the search for the suspects.

Avoid all non-essential travel over the coming hours in Spain and Portugal amid a power outage on April 28.

A major power outage across Spain and Portugal began around 12:30 PM on April 28. Air and train travel has been suspended until further notice. Street lights have turned off, causing heavy traffic in urban centers. Phone lines in some areas are down, and authorities are urging people to only use cell phones for emergency calls. Electricity providers have estimated restoring power will take 6 to 10 hours.

Expect major disruptions during mass housing protests across Spain on April 5.

On April 5, tens of thousands of people in cities across Spain will protest, calling for stronger government action to address the country’s ongoing housing crisis. In Madrid, demonstrations will begin at 6:30 PM in Town Hall Square, while in Barcelona, demonstrations will start at 6:00 PM at Plaça d’Espanya. Similar protests are expected in nearly all of Spain’s major provincial capitals and cities.

Valencia has been most heavily impacted, though Tarragona, Castellon, and Andalusia have also seen extensive flooding, leading to widespread disruptions. Buildings, roads and infrastructure in affected areas remain submerged. Adverse weather will likely continue through November 1.

The demonstration is planned to denounce the deterioration of democracy and demand a new general election. Increased security and disruptions on roads and walkways are likely. Clashes between police and demonstrators are possible.

Between October 9 and 24, bus workers will strike and protest in Baix Llobregat, Spain, to demand improved working conditions.

Police presence and disruptions on roads and walkways are likely at any demonstrations that materialize.
