Tropical Cyclone Nangka to Make Landfall in China Between October 12 and October 14

Between 12 October-14 October, Tropical Cyclone Nangka is expected to make landfall on Wanning, China. Typhoon warnings have been issued for Hainan and Guangxi province. Anticipate heavy rain and associated disruptions in the southern provinces. Flight disruptions are possible at Hainan’s Haikou Meilan, Sanya Phoenix, and Guangxi’s Nanning Wuxu international airports.

Pro-Democracy Demonstration in Bangkok, Thailand on October 14

Travelers in Bangkok should plan journeys accounting for disruption due to a pro-democracy demonstration on 14 October. At least 30 pro-democracy groups will gather at 14:00 local time at the Democracy Monument in the Phra Nakhon district. Police are expected to deploy over 3,000 officers to monitor the demonstration. Significant travel disruption can be expected in the Phra Nakhon district.

Strikes in Costa Rica on October 14 to Go Nationwide October 19

Several unions are staging strikes throughout Costa Rica on 14 and 19 October to oppose the government’s transactions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Demonstrations are planned to occur along Juan Santamaria Airport road at 09:00 local time 14 October and nationwide beginning 08:00 local time 19 October.

Typhoon Chan-hom Disrupting Japan Through October 11

Typhoon Chan-hom is expected to cause disruption throughout Japan from 8 October through 11 October. Okinawa, Kyushu, and parts of Honshu island are expected to be most affected. Strong wind and high tide warnings are in place for coastal areas. Coastal flooding, heavy rain, and strong winds are also expected in central and southern Honshu.

Protests in Barcelona, Spain on October 13

Protests staged by the Committee for the Defense of the Republic (CDR) are planned for 13 October at the City of Justice (Ciutat de la Justícia) building. The demonstrations are in support of CDR members undergoing trial and will begin at 11:00 local time in front of the building.

Travel Disruptions in Japan Through October 10 due to Tropical Storm Chan-hom

Members in Okinawa and Kyushu regions should plan for potential travel disruption during Tropical Storm Chan-hom until at least 10 October. Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) says the storm could strengthen as it moves in a northwesterly direction. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected across Okinawa from 7 October, and several prefectures in Kyushu from 9 October, potentially causing flooding and landslides.

Strikes in Greece to Impact Air Travel on October 7-8

Strikes organized by the Air Traffic Controllers Association (EEEKE) and the Union of Electric Engineers for Air Traffic Safety (ENIMAEK) over unpaid salaries will occur nationwide on 7-8 October. On both days, EEEKE workers will be on strike from 08:00 to 12:00 local time and ENIMAEK workers will be on strike from 12:00 to 16:00 local time.
