Protests in Chandigarh, India to Take Place on February 9

On 9 February, youth involved in the Indian National Congress party intend to surround the Punjab Legislative Assembly in response to controversial agriculture laws introduced. Hundreds are expected to attend and local transport is expected to experience disruptions. Security forces will likely be deployed to monitor the protest and may set up roadblocks near the venue. Clashes are possible.

Nationwide Airport Strikes to Cause Travel Disruptions Across France February 3-5

Travel delays are expected throughout the country of France from 3-5 February due to a nationwide strike planned by air traffic controllers and airport workers. Although strike motivations are yet to be announced, it is set to start at 20:00 local time 3 February and end at 6:00 local time 5 February. Lack of staff will likely impact airport operations.

State of Emergency Beginning February 1 in Myanmar

A one-year state of emergency has been declared as of 1 February after President Win Myint, leader Aung San Suu Kyi, and other leading party figures were detained during a military coup. Reports indicate soldier presence outside Yangon City Hall in Yangon, along with suspended telecommunication service.

Closure of Kempegowda Airport in Bengaluru, India Through February 5

Starting 30 January, the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru will be partially closed through 5 February due to the Aero India 2021 exhibition. All flight operations will be suspended during planned rehearsals and the main event. Security is likely to be increased around the airport. Affected local times include: 13:30-16:30 on 30-31 January, 10-12 and 14-17 on 1 February, 09-12 and 14-17 on 2-3 February, and 10-12, 14-17 on 4-5 February (all local times).

London’s King Cross Station to Remain Closed Between January 30-31

Following, limited available train services on the East Coast Main Line between Grantham and Peterborough 16-24 January, travelers should continue to account for disruptions on rail journeys to and from the capital due to scheduled engineering works. Between 30-31 January, all tracks at London’s King’s Cross Station will be closed for similar reasons.

Student Protests Set to Occur in Thessaloniki, Greece on January 28

On 28 January, protests are planned by student organizations between 12:00-15:00 local time. Protesters are expected to meet in the area of the Statue of Venizelos and Polytechnic School atrium. Protests are against new university policies regarding security forces on campuses. Clashes between protesters and police are possible.

Significant Traffic Disruption in New Delhi, India on January 22, 23, and 26

On 22, 23, and 26 January, expect significant traffic disruption. On 23 January, a Full-Dress Rehearsal for the Republic Day parade will be held at 9:50 local time beginning at Vijay Chowk and proceeding to the National Stadium. The final parade will take place on 26 January, and is also expected to create traffic disruptions and increase security forces in the area.

Florence Airport to Close From February 1 to March 20

Beginning 1 February, Florence Airport (FLR) will close due to resurfacing procedures at the airport’s only runway. Flights to or from FLR will either cancel or reroute to the two nearest airports: Pisa International Airport (PSA) and Bologna Airport (BLQ). The airport closure is set to last until March 20, but disruptions are possible after reopening.

Red Alert for Northern Counties in Norway Through January 23

As of 21 January, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute issued a red alert for northern counties including Nordland and Troms og Finnmark due to strong winds and icy conditions through 23 January. The red alert issued is the highest on the three-tier scale, and with high winds and low temperatures, power supply and transportation may be affected.
