Transportation Strikes in Naples, Italy to Cause Travel Delays on April 23

On 23 April public transport workers are to strike from 11:00 local time to 15:00 local time in Naples. Trade Unions such as FILT-CGIL, UILTRASPORTI, UGLFNA, and USB have called for bus, tram, metro, and railway workers to strike to demand an increase in wages and better personnel service and management. Italian laws require a minimum level of service during strikes.

Adverse Weather Warnings and Possible Floods in Northern New Zealand Through April 21

Adverse weather including thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds are likely in Northern New Zealand through at least 21 April. The New Zealand National Meteorological Service issued heavy rainfall warnings for the Bay of Plenty and Rotorua. As of 20 April, heavy rainfall watches have been established for Northland, Auckland, and the Coromandel Peninsula. Flooding in multiple areas is likely with continued heavy rainfall in the coming days.

Air Pollution in South Korea Worsens Through April 20

Severe air pollution has been expected nationwide through at least 20 April. Conditions worsened on 17 April, with Air Quality readings exceeding 150, or “very bad,” in most provinces. Conditions began improving on 18 April, but Southern Gyeonggi and South Chungcheong Provinces are likely to stay in the “bad” range between 19 and 20 April. Reduced visibility may result in air and ground travel disruptions.

Wildfires in Cape Town, South Africa Cause Damage and Lead to Evacuations as of April 19

As of 19 April, uncontrollable wildfires continue spreading from above University Estate to lower Table Mountain through Walmer Estate and Devil’s Peak Estate, and the Vredehoek area due to winds fueling the fire. Evacuations have already occurred along the area and will continue. Several University of Cape Town buildings have also been affected, and the N2 and M3 highways have been closed.

Student Protests in Thessaloniki, Greece on April 15

On 15 April, student protesters clashed with police in Thessaloniki. 7,000 students participated in a march; 100 students threw Molotov cocktails and projectiles at police. Police responded by firing tear gas and stun grenades. Protests were to oppose the passage of a university reform bill that would allow for security force deployment on campuses. Future protests may occur.

Labor Union Demonstrations Throughout Spain on April 15

On 15 April, demonstrations are occurring in front of the Ministry of Science and Innovation at 18:00 local time. Similar protests are occurring in Barcelona, Valencia, and Seville. These events are being organized by various trade unions in hopes of a legislation revision to recognize labor rights as well as allow negotiations for salary and working conditions for all personnel in the research sector.

Unexploded World War 2 Bomb Removal in Regensburg, Germany on April 15 to Cause Evacuations

An unexploded World War 2 bomb was discovered at a construction site in Burgweinting within the Regensburg area. Authorities have planned an extraction from 9:00 local time on 15 April where individuals will be evacuated and a 450-meter zone will be cleared for the operation. The A-3 will also be closed in both directions during the disposal operation.
