Red-Level Warnings Issued for Weather in Mexico Through August 6

Severe thunderstorms with heavy rainfall, strong winds, hail, tornadoes, and possible flooding are forecast to develop across central and southern Mexico through at least August 6th. Authorities have issued red-level warnings for thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and strong winds for eastern Chiapas, northern Tlaxcala, State of Mexico, Federal, and Michoacan.

Rival Protests in Thailand Likely to Continue Until Mid-August

As of August 2, pro-democracy and rival pro-government protests are likely to take place across Thailand until at least mid-August. Protests are will likely occur near government buildings, parks, or public squares. Localized transport disruptions are likely due to demonstrations. Additionally, clashes are possible between rival groups, protesters, and security personnel.

Tropical Depression Sinlaku to Cause Flashfloods and Landslides in Vietnam Possibly Until August 8

On August 2, the passage of Tropical Depression Sinlaku (locally known as No. 02) has made landfall between Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa provinces. Sinlaku is forecasted to move further inland, in a north-western direction, and weaken into a low-pressure system in northern Laos. Sinlaku will bring heavy rain and strong winds until at least August 8, which will likely result in flash floods and landslides.

Protest Set to Occur in Rome, Italy on August 4

Labor unions have scheduled a protest to occur at Piazza Barberini in Rome on August 4 at 10:00 local time in support of employees of the now liquidated Air Italy. Demonstrations will move to the Department of Labor and the Department of Transportation later in the day. COVID-19 related restrictions will be in place and attendance should be limited to the approved 50-100 persons but travel delays in the area are still likely.

Heatwave in Western and Southern Europe to Continue Through at Least August 2

A heatwave has been forecasted to continue across portions of western and southern Europe through at least August 2. Some countries in the area include France, Greece, southern Italy, southern UK, Spain, and the western Netherlands. The daily high temperature has been predicted to reach between 95º-104º Fahrenheit (35º-40ºC). Heatwaves are capable of causing transportation disruptions and trigger localized power disruptions.

Landslides in Nepal Possible Until July 31 Due to Recent Earthquakes

Seven were killed and at least 28 injured in a series of landslides outside Pokhara, Nepal. Damage to infrastructure has been reported. Landslides – usually a concern during Nepal’s June to September monsoon season – are particularly likely now due to recent earthquakes. Further landslides, road damage, and power outages remain likely until July 31.

Protest in Berlin, Germany Scheduled for August 1

On August 1, at 20:00 local time, various civic groups have planned a protest in Berlin. The protesters are expected to gather at the Herrfurthplatz in Berlin-Neukölln. The protest has been organized to denounce a planned eviction of a neighborhood bar as authorities have stated the bar is known to be attended by far-left activists.

Terror Alert Issued in India for Attacks Likely to Occur in August

Authorities have issued a terror alert in Ayodhya, Jammu and Kashmir, and the National Capital Territory of Delhi, following an intelligence report indicating that members of the terror organizations Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) would cross into India to carry out separate attacks. The attacks may occur on August 5 to coincide with the anniversary of the revocation of Article 370 and commencement of the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya; or on August 15, when India celebrates its Independence Day.
