Severe Weather to Hit Eastern, Central, and Southern Europe Until at Least August 19

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms will affect Eastern, Central, and Southern Europe through at least August 19. Forecasts predict Germany and Serbia will sustain the most intense storm activity with high-level warnings meaning heavy rain, sustained winds, and flooding are expected. Other areas affected include but are not limited to Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Poland.

Protest to Take Place in Glasgow, UK on August 20

The British Trade union, GMB, has called for a protest in central Glasgow on August 20 to demand a pay increase for key workers. Participants will gather outside Glasgow City Chambers on George Square at 19:30 local time. Although attendance could reach hundreds of people, the protest is likely to pass off without any incidents.

Bomb Threat in Joso, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan August 18

A bomb threat made on August 18 has resulted in heightened security in the Ibaraki Prefecture. Officials will reportedly close several government buildings from 15:00 local time. Rail services on the Joso Line between Moriya and Shimotsuma will also be suspended from 15:00. Shuttle services will be available.

Heatwave to Hit Korean Peninsula Until August 21

A heatwave is expected to last until August 21, 2020. Temperatures of 33-35°C (91-95°F) are possible throughout much of the affected area. Authorities will likely issue new alerts or update/rescind existing advisories as weather conditions change over the coming days.

On August 15, members are marching from Place du Trocadéro to the Ivorian embassy starting at 14:00 local time. These protests coincide with nationwide protests in Cote d’Ivoire linked to their presidential election.
