Tropical Storm Ulysses Forecast to Become Severe Tropical Storm in the Next 24 Hours from November 9

On 9 November, Tropical Storm Ulysses formed out of a Tropical Depression in the Philippine Sea. Ulysses is forecast to become a severe Tropical Storm in the next 24 hours before strengthening further to become a Typhoon on 11 November, prior to its landfall in the Bicol-Quezon area on 12 November. Moderate to heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected.

Tropical Storm Turned Tonyo Forecast to Make Landfall in Vietnam on November 10

Members in south-central provinces should anticipate disruption during the passage of Tropical Storm Tonyo until at least 13 November. Tonyo is forecast to make landfall late on 10 November between Phu Yen and Ninh Thuan provinces. Strong winds and heavy rains are expected. A level 3 disaster risk warning (middle on a five-tier scale) has been issued ahead of the storm’s arrival.

Thousands of primary health care nurses and administration staff at more than 500 medical centers across the country are expected. Greece Imposes COVID-19 Lockdown Measures From November 7 to 30

The government will impose lockdown measures beginning on 7 November until 30 November in response to the increase in COVID-19 cases. All retail businesses will be closed, except pharmacies and supermarkets, and travel between regions will be banned. Taxi drivers have announced their plan to stage a nationwide strike on 6 November. In conjunction with the work stoppage, they are expected to hold demonstrations in the capital, Rome. Reports indicate that protesters in the capital are expected to gather in front of the Ministry of Economy and Finance office and Piazza Porta Pia at 10:30 (local time) and 13:00, respectively.

Heightened Security at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, India on November 5

Heightened security at Indira Gandhi International Airport is to be expected following a terror alert. The threat was issued by the Khalistan separatist Sikhs For Justice militant group. The group threatened to disrupt two London-bound flights on 5 November. Although terror alerts are regularly issued in the capital, all threats should be taken seriously until proven otherwise.

Storm Goni to Impact Vietnam Between November 4 and 6

Storm Goni is expected to cause significant flooding and landslides within the central provinces between 4 and 6 November. According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the storm will bring heavy rainfall with provinces likely to be hit by strong winds of up to 103-117 kph. At least 36 people were killed and 58 remain missing after Typhoon Molave hit the central provinces. The death toll is expected to rise as rescue operations continue.
